YBA Team

Yukon Badminton Association Board and Volunteer Team

We are a registered organization under Yukon Corporate Affairs and the Yukon Sport governing body for badminton. Our main goal is to support the badminton sport in the Yukon.

We have a variety of different drop-in groups with the intended to play friendly – competitive with an emphasis on allowing all players, of all skill levels, equal playing time on the available courts.

The development of junior-age players through structured, coached sessions is also a part of our goals, as well as (depending on our available resources) offering badminton workshops in the Yukon communities.

We support Yukons professional badminton athletes on a national and international level, besides running our own Arctic Winter Games team.

Below are some of our key volunteers who help us organize and stay in compliance. If you wish to get involved in the club, feel free to reach out to us. We are always looking for additional volunteers to help us.

Board Members and Volunteers

Angus (President)

I found badminton at the age of 14 in Calgary where I grew up. As I strove to grow and compete in Calgary, I slowly stepped away from training in order to focus on university. After discovering the club within a year of moving to Whitehorse in 2019, I met the other members and an exceptional Athlete named Anton Menzel. The combination of an amazing community and Anton’s desire for a training partner thrust me back into the sport. I’m on the board to gain experience in the process, and give back to the sport I love!

Kelly (Vice President)

I’ve been a fan of badminton through many years of playing into my university years, coaching throughout my teaching career, and being a Technical Official. Being on the YBA board has provided me with an opportunity to give back to this sport through volunteering ideas and management.

Ben (Technical Support and Administration)

I was looking for new opportunities to become more active again in the winter after moving to Canada and the Yukon, but I didn’t really know where to start until I found out about the club in 2021. I immediately enjoyed playing Badminton again, after not playing for almost 20 years and especially the very welcoming atmosphere within the club made me not only stay but also advance my engagement in the club as a volunteer.
